Because we know the stakes
Clarity is more than a nice-to-have, it's our promise to you — regardless of whether that entails pressure-testing your visa eligibility, giving you a candid assessment of the costs you can expect to incur, or acknowledging the limits of our expertise. But for every challenge that we surface, we guarantee to propose a workable solution.

Hi, I'm Frances. Growing up in rural Maine, I never imagined I'd move abroad, let alone help other Americans like me achieve their dream of living in Europe.
I started Mirabella to provide the support I wish I'd had when I relocated from New York City to Stockholm, Sweden — a move that took four years from start to finish, thanks to a confluence of ill-advised and incorrect assumptions, intentionally opaque immigration laws, and unfortunate timing (the global pandemic certainly didn't help matters).
After years of living in limbo, a chance encounter with a fellow bridesmaid at my best friend's wedding led to me discover that I was eligible for Italian citizenship by descent. (Thank you, Jess!) That one conversation changed not just my life but the lives of my family members who, like me, are now proud dual US-Italian citizens legally allowed to reside anywhere in the EU. But it shouldn't be that hard; the official channels I relied on to guide me simply aren't designed to surface that kind of information, and something this important shouldn't be left to chance. And all my hard-earned knowledge — from navigating foreign bureaucracies and obtaining proper documentation to day-to-day practicalities like preparing your American financial accounts for a cross-border life, what's worth shipping overseas (and what isn't!), and how to keep your US cellphone number operational without paying a small fortune — shouldn't be gate-kept, either. Although my journey was incredibly challenging at times, knowing that I can use what I learned to help other people makes it all worthwhile.
The Italian word mirabella comes from the medieval Latin mira ("viewpoint") + bella ("beautiful") — exactly the energy I hope to bring to others' experiences, now that I'm on the other side of moving abroad. It is also the name of the birthplace of my great-great-grandmother Anna, from whom I inherited my Italian citizenship. I couldn't think of a more fitting way to honor her legacy.
Relocation advisors are usually engaged by multinational corporations to assist executives during global placements. They handle everything from the initial visa application to finding housing and coordinating logistics with the moving company. At Mirabella, we aim to bring the same level of care and expertise to American individuals and families who are interested in moving to Europe on their own terms.
Mirabella is currently equipped to help American passport holders and their families move to Europe, including the United Kingdom. Our clientele frequently already have some degree of location independence, often through entrepreneurship, retirement, or another form of remote work. It is not necessary to know where you want to move, or even to be sure that you want to embark on a move at all; thanks to our combination of holistic yet individualized guidance, we are particularly well-positioned to help you understand your options before coming to any decisions.
While we are always happy to have an initial conversation, we generally encourage Americans who are moving through their job or on a student visa to first seek support from either their employer or educational institution, as they will have the most relevant resources and information.
Most relocation advisors target a very specific niche — if you don't fit, they can't help you. With Mirabella, you have a trusted partner that is committed to providing guidance that is both holistic and individualized from beginning to end. In practice, that means that we have made it our business to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in immigration law across Europe, so we can confidently assess your options when developing your custom visa strategy. Additionally, unlike immigration attorneys, our recommendations are grounded in lived experience, and as a result span everything from tips for getting your documents apostilled to important, not-so-obvious information about preparing your US financial accounts for a cross-border life.
No. Mirabella provides strategic advisory services, not legal representation. We are not lawyers or accountants and, as such, do not offer legal advice or financial services. However, we will be the first to flag if and when your move would benefit from the services of an immigration attorney (or any other licensed professional) and are happy to provide introductions as part of our services.
Our role is to give you comprehensive, credible guidance on relocation processes and visa applications, ensuring you have the information you need to move with clarity and confidence — including referrals to other professionals with more localized expertise in areas ranging from the law, tax preparation, insurance, and real estate.
Mirabella was founded on the belief that every move is unique, and deserves to be treated that way. However, as a starting point, a standard Mirabella engagement consists of:
— 1 residency roadmap outlining our recommended pathways, including a plan A, plan B, and plan C each tailored to your lifestyle, financial situation, household structure, values, and goals
— 1 relocation timeline with crucial tips on sequencing everything from securing your visa, finding housing in your target country, registering for healthcare upon arrival in your new home, opening a bank account as a foreigner, filing expat taxes, and even voting in US elections overseas
— 1 document checklist for your visa application
— up to 3 hour-long strategy sessions conducted via video or phone call
Whether you're ready to request a proposal or have questions that aren't answered here, the first step is to book your initial discovery call.
No. The vast majority of people move without the assistance of either a relocation advisory or a law firm, and we think that's a good thing. Mirabella's role is similar to a wedding planner's. Do you need one to get married? Absolutely not. But there are going to be times when the administrative burden alone feels like its own full-time job and, for some people, that kind of mental load is worth outsourcing. (We happen to find parsing the fine print on immigration bureaus' websites and tracking down long-lost vital records thrilling, but we realize not everyone feels the same.) And, unlike influencers and AI, we promise to be honest with you about the challenges you can expect to face — and how to handle them if and when they arise.
How exciting! You're in a wonderful place to start exploring your options. We'll work with you to build a custom strategy that takes into account your lifestyle, goals, income, family structure, and values. You may be surprised to learn about the various pathways to European residency that are available to you!
No. We wish we could guarantee otherwise, but the difficult reality is that moving abroad is inevitably going to push you beyond your comfort zone, with surprises both good and bad along the way. Anyone who says otherwise isn't being truthful with you.
But we would argue that friction is integral to what makes the whole endeavor worthwhile. You're on an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime adventure, one that will give you the opportunity to learn a tremendous amount about yourself and the world around you.
At Mirabella, our goal is to minimize the unnecessary stressors (like finding an excellent cross-border tax accountant fluent in English), so you can put your energy towards the frictionful activities that only you can do, and that will lead to a richer, more meaningful experience (like learning an entirely new language as an adult).
The best way to determine if Mirabella is the right fit for you is to schedule a discovery call.
Please note that, to provide the best experience for everyone, we are intentional about only working with clients for whom we're confident we can provide exceptional service. Additionally, as a small company, we take on a limited number of engagements at a time, to ensure every client's move gets the attention it deserves. If you'd like to inquire about our availability and/or join our waitlist, reach out.
We're based in beautiful Stockholm, Sweden but our coverage area extends across the European Union, United Kingdom, and beyond. If you're curious whether your target country falls within our scope, write us a message.
